Saison 2022/2023 / PBA - D1 Philippines : Kaleb Wesson né le 29 juillet 1999 à Westerville (Ohio), 2.08m 122kgs, poste 4/5 US.

Alors qu'il sortait d'une superbe année Senior au lycée en 2017 : 21 pts, 11 rbds de moyenne, Kaleb Wesson fut recruté par sa fac locale de Ohio State Uinversity, au sein de la Big Ten Conference.
Dès son arrivée, Wesson travailla dur pour se mettre en meilleure forme, perdant du poids et supprimant les jus et sodas.
Il travailla aussi son conditionnement en pratiquant la boxe et la musculation avec un entraineur particulier.
Nommé All-Freshman de sa conférence, il établit cette année-là une moyenne de 10 points et 5 rebonds par match, 56% au tir.

Lors de son année Sophomore en 2019, il augmentéa sa moyenne à 15 points, 7 rbds et 2 AS, 50% au tir et 34% à trois points.
A la fin de cette saison, il s'est déclaré pour le repêchage NBA 2019 mais a finalement choisi de retourner à Ohio State.

En 2020, en tant que junior, Wesson scora 14 points par match (10e du Big Ten) pris 9 rebonds (5e), shooté 43% à 3pts, et a terminé 9° du Big Ten en pourcentage de lancers francs à 73%.
À la fin de la saison régulière, Wesson fut nommé dans le deuxième 5 de sa conférence par les entraîneurs et les médias.
Dès lors il décida de tenter sa chance à la draft, et de ne pas réaliser son année Senior en fac.

Non drafté, Wesson obtint tout de même un contrat avec les Golden State Warriors qui l'envoyèrent produire 13 matchs d'excellente facture en G-League : 10 pts de moyenne, 9 rbds, 2.5 AS, 71% à 2 pts, 33% à 3pts, 90% aux FT.

Intéressant les Belges d'Ostende en avril, il n'y jouera finalement pas et devra patienter jusqu'à l'été pour tenter de se montrer en Summer League. Vains efforts, de nombreux mois en dilletante et c'est visiblement là que la "cassure" se fait.
Il devra en effet attendre plusieurs mois avant qu'un contrat ne lui soit proposé : direction le Maccabi Rishon LeZion / D1 israélienne, en janvier 2022.
Pour sa 1° expérience en Europe, même avec un 10 d'éval en 20 minutes, il déçu, la faute en partie à son irrégularité et à la gestion de ses fautes. A noté toutefois qu'il termina son expérience israélienne avec sérieux : 18 d'éval de moyenne sur ses 4 derniers matchs.
De quoi laisser penser, que ce jeune intérieur US, bien "reconditionné", peut valoir quelque chose.

Durant l'été 2022, il se montra aisément à son avantage au sein de la D1 porto ricaine : 21 d'éval en 29 minutes de moyenne sur 13 rencontres.
Depuis septembre, il officie au sein de la D1 Philippine, où, sur ses bagages et son gabarit, il domine outrageusement : 20pts à 56%, 31% à 3 pts (12/39), 77% FT, 18 rbd, 4 AS, 2.3 ctr, 2 ST, 4 TO, 37 d'éval en 43 minutes en 8 rencontres pour le moment.

Scoreur efficace sous le fer, puissamment armé de ses 122kgs, disposant de bonnes mains pour conclure aisément à droite comme à gauche, pouvant menacer de son shoot à toutes distances, capable d'attaquer dos ou face au cercle, rebondeur défensif redouté, altruiste avec une bonne vision du jeu et une bonne qualité de passe.

Voici un jeune joueur qui a toutefois encore besoin d'être accompagné sur sa gestion physique, afin de ne pas se laisser aller.
Il doit continuer à travailler son physique et ne pas laisser ses vieux démons "sodas / mal bouffe" le rattraper.
Attention à la gestion de ses fautes, notamment à ses coudes en attaque et à son irrégularité.
Sa concentration offensive et défensive doit rester élever.
Il peut souffrir face à des joueurs plus rapides qui cherchent à le jouer en vitesse.
Il doit également se montrer plus agressif au rebond offensif et au contre.
Son spot actuel prouve clairement que quelque chose a coincé dans dans sa stratégie de carrière.

A seulement 23 ans, ce joueur est donc "à relancer" en Europe. Son profil comporte des risques, mais bien pris en main, si la tête suit, il peut faire de gros dégâts.
On ne se montre pas à son avantage au sein de la trés relevée Big Ten Conference et on ne produit pas du 10 pts 9 rbds de moyenne en G-League, si l’on n’a pas un minimum de qualités basket.

Season 2022/2023 / PBA - D1 Philippines: Kaleb Wesson born July 29, 1999 in Westerville (Ohio), 2.08m 122kgs, post 4/5 US.

While coming out of a superb senior year in high school in 2017: 21 pts, 11 rbds average, Kaleb Wesson was recruited by his local college of Ohio State Uinversity, within the Big Ten Conference.
As soon as he arrived, Wesson worked hard to get in better shape, losing weight and cutting out juices and sodas.
He also worked on his conditioning by practicing boxing and bodybuilding with a private trainer.
Named All-Freshman of his conference, he averaged 10 points and 5 rebounds per game, 56% shooting.

In his Sophomore year in 2019, he increased his average to 15 points, 7 rbds and 2 AS, 50% shooting and 34% three-pointers.
At the end of that season, he declared for the 2019 NBA Draft but ultimately chose to return to Ohio State.

In 2020, as a junior, Wesson scored 14 points per game (10th in the Big Ten), grabbed 9 rebounds (5th), shot 43% on 3pts, and finished 9th in the Big Ten in free throw percentage at 73%.
At the end of the regular season, Wesson was named to the second 5 of his conference by coaches and the media.
From then on he decided to try his luck in the draft, and not to make his senior year in college.

Undrafted, Wesson still obtained a contract with the Golden State Warriors who sent him to produce 13 games of excellent quality in the G-League: 10 pts average, 9 rbds, 2.5 AS, 71% to 2 pts, 33% to 3pts, 90% to FT.

Interesting the Belgians of Ostend in April, he will finally not play there and will have to wait until the summer to try to show himself in the Summer League. Wasted efforts, many months in dilletante and this is obviously where the "break" is made.
He will have to wait several months before a contract is offered to him: direction the Israeli Maccabi Rishon LeZion / D1, in January 2022.
For his 1st experience in Europe, even with a 10 of eval in 20 minutes, he disappointed, the fault in part to his irregularity and the management of his faults. Noted, however, that he finished his Israeli experience with seriousness: 18 average evals over his last 4 games.
Enough to suggest that this young US interior, well "reconditioned", may be worth something.

During the summer of 2022, he easily showed his advantage in the Puerto Rican D1: 21 of eval in 29 minutes of average over 13 games.
Since September, he officiates in the D1 Philippine, where, on his luggage and his size, he dominates outrageously: 20pts at 56%, 31% at 3 pts (12/39), 77% FT, 18 rbd, 4 AS, 2.3 ctr, 2 ST, 4 TO, 37 eval in 43 minutes in 8 games for the moment.

Effective scorer under the iron, powerfully armed with his 122kgs, with good hands to conclude easily right and left, able to threaten his shot at any distance, able to attack back or face the circle, feared defensive rebounder, altruistic with a good vision of the game and a good quality of passing.

Here is a young player who still needs to be accompanied on his physical management, so as not to let go.
He must continue to work on his physique and not let his old demons "sodas / bad food" catch up with him.
Beware of the management of his faults and his irregularity. His offensive and defensive concentration must remain elevated.
He can suffer against faster players who are looking to play him quickly.
He also needs to be more aggressive on offensive rebounding and blocking.
His current spot clearly proves that something has stuck in his career strategy.

At only 23 years old, this player is therefore "to be relaunched" in Europe. His profile carries risks, but well taken in hand, if the head follows, he can do great damage.
We do not show ourselves to our advantage in the very high Big Ten Conference and we do not produce 10 pts 9 rbds average in the G-League, if we do not have a minimum of basketball qualities.
